FAQ: The current working directory is already activated for another System ID

Problem: you can't start DirectSmile and you get the message "The current working directory is already activated for another System ID. Please choose a different working directory". This can occur if you use a new systemID on a PC where DirectSmile is already installed and activated. Here is a guideline what to do in this case:

Open the directory where the DirectSmile software is installed. This is normally

C:\Program Files\DirectSmile Generator

In the folder "System" is a file System.ID

SystemID

Delete the "System.ID" file, it will be recreated later .

Now please activate DirectSmile:

Show activation guide version 5

Show activation guide version 4 and below

I am experiencing this problem (repeatedly), and the solution in this post no longer works for me (help!)  I deleted System.id, and I still get the same dialogue asking me to choose a different directory.

Do you use Windows 7? If yes, please make sure that you install and always start DirectSmile with admin rights. Please find a detailed guideline here:
